Dortmund, September 2, 2011. In Germany roughly 5.3 billion plastic bags are used a year. Worldwide, the enormous quantity of plastic bags has long since been a huge environmental problem. The 1-Euro discounter TEDi has increased their focus on sustainability and environmental protection and beginning in the Fall of 2011 will offer its customers bags with the well-known environmental label the “Blauer Engel” (Blue Angel). This eco-label attests that up to 80 percent fewer fossil materials are used to manufacture the bag.

Dortmund, August 4, 2011. The prospects for young people in trade are good. The multifaceted training and quick career possibilities are popular with people first entering the job market. On Monday 151 women and men began their apprenticeship at the 1-Euro discounter. The company currently trains 388 young people in eight occupations throughout Germany. 285 apprentices have already successfully completed their apprenticeship at TEDi.

The 1-Euro Discounter TEDi focuses more and more on renewable energies in its power supply: already three-quarters of the roughly 1,200 stores are supplied with certified eco-electricity from renewable energy sources, and additional changeovers are planned. TEDi thereby makes an active contribution to the protection of the environment.

Graz/Dortmund, May 2, 2011. The 1-Euro Discounter TEDi expands to Austria and opens its first store today, Monday, in Graz. The company, which was founded in 2004, operates just under 1,200 stores in Germany. Additional stores are already planned in Austria. The range of products of the 1-Euro discounter includes products for daily needs, gift and decorative items, toys and stationary, but also party items, do-it-yourself supplies, and drugstore items.

Dortmund, 18 February 2011. The Brackeler Hellweg is going to get a little bit greener as the 1 euro discount store TEDi had 30 plane-trees planted in front of its headquarters in Brackel this week – adjacent to the parking spaces near the administration building. And there is more to come: Brackel’s so called “blue giant” will plant another 70 broadleaves until spring 2012.
